Bone Marrow: Give a Spit, Save a Life

Screenshot 2014-07-31 15.49.46 We are St Andrews Marrow, a student branch of the charity Anthony Nolan. For many people with blood cancers, such as leukaemia, a stem cell transplant is their last chance of life. For a transplant to be a success, they need to find the right match. However, 70% of people who need a transplant are relying on finding a stranger who is a match, and 50% never find a match because there are no suitable donors on the register.

To increase the chances of finding a match, we need more people on the register. This is where you come in!

We run recruitment events throughout the academic year in order to sign students up to the national Anthony Nolan bone marrow register. This involves filling in a form, giving a small saliva sample and BAM, you could save a life! Just pop into one of our clinics or contact us for more information- Email us marrow@st-andrews.ac.uk or add us on Facebook- St Andrews Marrow.

We are also looking for students to help out at our recruitment events. You’ll need to be trained beforehand, but it’s a great experience and really rewarding. Or you can even help out at our fundraising events that we hold throughout the year to raise lots and lots of money for such a great charity!
